Working together in the workplace for a low carbon future! Free training for all university staff on personal and shared actions to reduce carbon emissions.

‘Climate Solidarity’ Course Introduction, 9.30am – 1, Friday 26th March

Free training to all University staff on personal and shared actions to reduce carbon emissions.

The government recognise that the response to climate change must include individual behaviour as well as energy technologies. While we might know that we need to cut our greenhouse gas emissions, individuals and organisations need new skills, knowledge and support to thrive in the coming low-carbon economy. Not to mention meeting institutional targets and coping with devolved energy budgets.

Climate Solidarity” is a workplace course acting on carbon emissions. TEU is offering an introductory half-day workshop on Friday 26th March. This will provide tools and techniques to participants who can then set up small ‘Action Groups’ with colleagues and friends in the workplace. The opportunity will be particularly valuable to staff responsible for environmental behaviour of other colleagues.

Through Action Groups staff can work together on a carbon-cutting activity over a six month period, with full support, institutional backing and tried-and-tested learning resources. Activities involve reducing gas and electricity bills or driving more efficiently. Though the focus of Action Groups is on personal carbon cutting, the aim is to build a wave of action in workplaces to make our community more sustainable.

To sign up for the training please email rosie@transitionedinburghuni.org.uk by Monday 22nd March

Participants will benefit from:

  • Facilitation training: to lead a successful Action Group
  • Communication & presentation skills: how to engage colleagues and communicate the issues
  • Recruitment and promotion: receive materials and support to recruit a group

Employers will benefit from staff who are more aware of climate change, energy efficiency and who are more likely to support workplace change to cut energy use, waste and carbon emissions.

This Climate Solidarity training is open to all employees of the University. Past sessions have been attended by a wide and diverse audience. Interests and motivations have also been varied – from active trade union members wanting to be ready for changes to their employment, to environmentalists, to those interested in saving money.
