Transition Edinburgh University seeks to recruit current students or recent graduates of the University as Paid Interns to work for varying lengths of time up to March 2011. Time arrangements can be flexible, and positions can take place during term time and/or in the summer.
Based at 5 Forrest Hill alongside 6 project staff, all positions are part-time, approx 12 hours/week at £8.17/hr plus expenses.
An exciting project for cutting personal carbon emissions and building resilience in the University community.
Positions
We need people to fill several roles, across these skills:
- Events organising – for travel, food, energy and other events including outside the university
- Graphics design and/or vector graphics
- Press/media work – ability to turn rough copy into presentable documents/webspages
- Volunteer coordination – for the Big Green Makeover
- Training coordination – for peer learning programmes
- Environmental DIY – some knowledge – we don’t expect experts!!
- Research – how to measure and record what we are doing
- Project evaluation – recording and reflecting our progress
- Project facilitation, funding, planning and monitoring – an interest here is enough!
- Carbon accounting – some knowledge and numeracy – we don’t expect experts!
Essential criteria
- Ability to work well in a team and to support others.
- Ability to show initiative and work independently to develop a defined task.
- Computer literacy (using email, web, word processors, spreadsheets, databases etc.).
Desirable
- Experience of at least one year at the University of Edinburgh or similar institution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to target different types of audience.
- Experience of participating in a campaigning or voluntary group.
- Experience of organising an event or project.
- Experience of facilitating meetings.
- Excellent personal organisation skills, particularly time management and prioritisation skills.
- Good knowledge of environmental issues, particularly peak oil and/or climate change.
