written by Joseph Farthing on June 16, 20106 new paid internships available. Approx 12 hours/ week at £8.17/hr.
Transition Edinburgh University seeks to recruit current students or recent graduates as paid interns to work with us for varying lengths of time until March 2011 on our exciting project of carbon cutting and resilience building for the University community.
Background
The Transition Edinburgh University project [www.transitionedinburghuni.org.uk] is an initiative of the University of Edinburgh’s People & Planet society and is supported by the University’s Estates and Buildings Department. It draws its model from a fast-growing Transition Town movement [http://transitionnetwork.org/], which seeks to find community-level solutions to the twin threats of Climate Change and Peak Oil. It builds on nearly two decades of progress at the University and on People & Planet’s Going Greener campaign [http://peopleandplanet.org/goinggreener/].
Transition Edinburgh University engages with students, academics and support staff, encouraging institutional change, and the implementation of practical hands-on projects.
Our aim is to deliver 4 outcomes:- Measure our community’s carbon footprint and record reductions achieved
- Cut “lifestyle” carbon emissions in the 37,000 strong Edinburgh University community
- Increase awareness and involvement of the community in action on peak oil and climate change
- Create and promote a set of tools to support Transition groups in similar and surrounding communities
