Photo by Argonne National LaboratorySaving water = saving energy + saving money
I’ve replaced long baths with showers, use the washing machine every two weeks, never let the water running all the while wondering: how much am I actually saving?
Transition Edinburgh University together with Energy Saving Scotland have set up a pilot project to determine how much water a household is spending and many of the times wasting. The average household spends around 30% of their gas bill on heating water, which could be as much as £200 a year. That’s money out of your pocket, money that could easily be saved and spent on something else.
You don’t need to make drastic changes. The first thing you need to do is find out how much you’re spending and start with the online Water Energy Check. There’s a second incentive to completing the survey, aside from you saving £200 a year on gas bills, the chance to win one of 5 Water Efficiency ‘Goody Bags’.
Once you’ve gone through the Water Energy Check you’ll have a better idea of where you stand in terms of spending/wasting water and money. And that’s not all! If you need further advice, there’s a Water Efficiency Advisor available for you to contact for free on 0800 512 012.
