Where to buy a bike in Freshers’ week

Here’s a list of places where you can get a cheap bike and sort out your travel needs for the year!
The Bike Station are a charity that take old bikes and do them up. They have a sale on every Saturday, prices start from about £45. All the proceeds go towards their work promoting cycling.
Lothian and Borders Police have an auction of lost property where you can pick up a bike for a good price. The next one is on Saturday 9th October at 11am.
The University of Edinburgh travel page has a list of local bike shops where university staff and students can get a discount on bikes.If you’re nervous about cycling or haven’t cycled in a city before then the University have a lot of free resources to help you. Including:
Cycle training courses in conjunction with the Bike Station for groups or individuals.
Commuter cycling training courses for staff and students to improve their confidence and skills in commuting to the university.
Bike buddies – volunteer staff and students who will accompany you to your destination to help you gain confidence.Once you have your bike come along to the Transition Bike Treasure Hunt on Saturday 18th of September, meet outside Teviot at 11am. A great way to explore Edinburgh, whether you’ve just arrived or want to get to know the city better. We’ll give you clues and put you into teams, you just bring your bike. There’ll be cake and refreshments to follow.

There are many ways to get involved- from visiting an organic farm, looking out for organic clothes on your high street, switching an everyday product to an organic product or cooking up an organic feast on a budget for your friends.
