Beer of the British Isles

Bristo Hall was packed last Friday for a celebration of independent breweries and low carbon travel!

Over 8o people showed up and enjoyed sample beer from four corners of the British Isles to the sounds of lovely fiddle music. There was a bit of beer history involved – a speaker from the Campaign for Real Ale spoke about the links between local ale and the distinctiveness of different parts of the UK.

Ribbon Cutting for Sustainability Week

Edinburgh Sustainability Week, launched outside the Main Library on Friday, is a week of events and activities for everyone at the University of Edinburgh to come together to make a difference on health, development, environment and social justice.

Students and staff, including EUSA Vice-President Sam Hansford, cut the ribbon and walked the green carpet to usher in the week of over 30 events and activites organise by over 20 groups, departments and organisations.

Edinburgh Sustainability Week and Awards – a new name for Our Impact

Dear all,

As you know, 23-31 October is Edinburgh University’s week of awareness and action on health, development, environment and social justice. The week already includes 37 events organised by over 20 student, staff and external organisations, and more groups are taking part every day (http://bit.ly/impact_week2).

Last week University the event was discussed at Central Management Group and they felt it would potentially confuse researchers if the term “impact” was used widely at Edinburgh due to its specific use by the Research Councils to mean the total impact of research on society (http://framework.rcuk.ac.uk/).

Because of this, the week and the awards will now be known as:

  • Edinburgh Sustainability Week
  • Edinburgh Sustainability Awards
