Screening of The Pipe
written by Justina on May 16, 2011
Join us for a screening of the award-winning film documenting the 10-year-long struggle between a small Irish community and the oil-giant Shell over a proposed gas pipeline.
See The Pipe first, for just £2.
Friday 20th for a 7:30 start.
Lecture Theatre 175 in the Old College, South Bridge, Edinburgh“Reminiscent of Local Hero, but infinitely more troubling, this gripping and beautifully-shot film tells the real-life (and ongoing)
story of Shell UK’s plans to lay a giant, high-pressure gas pipe through the town and fishing waters around Rossport, County Mayo, to a new inland refinery. When the residents, farmers and fishermen of Rossport stand up to oppose the project, fearing the risks of pollution and the threat to traditional economic activities, the film plunges us into the frightening and at times life-threatening clashes between protestors and police at sea and on land, and between locals themselves, begging the question: what responsibility do government and big energy have to the communities they profit from?”
If you can’t make it The Pipe is well worth catching at The Filmhouse on the 28th May as part of Take One Action’s Green Shoot’s Series
