How green is your internet?
written by Alice O'Rourke on June 21, 2011
Take a look at this short film to get you thinking about the fastest growing industry on the planet: http://www.geeksaresexy.net/2011/06/20/how-green-is-your-internet/
2% of global energy consumption can be attributed to computer servers, the same as the aviation industry. This was news to my ears!
In Edinburgh Uni the College of Humanities and Social Science spent £129,361 last year on energy, that’s 1,515,547 kWhs, equating to 813,879 tonnes of CO2. The Carbon Catalyst project at Edinburgh uni is looking into I.T, getting the ball rolling to reduce energy consumption.
If you have any I.T energy saving ideas or suggestions email alice@teu.org.uk

Freeshop: volunteers wanted!
written by Justina on June 2, 2011
Ladies and gentlemen, we present you the Oscar-winning-world-famous Edinburgh University Freeshop! Last year we prevented over 7 tonnes of stuff from going to landfill, saving students £1000s. This also means less new stuff was bought, less non renewable resources were used and big CO2 savings were made. And it was so much fun!
