Training and Support for Your Project

Transition Edinburgh University are pleased to offer training courses and support for your project. All training covers practical considerations, troubleshooting, measuring and reporting CO2 cuts, and appropriate resources.

Rates for organisations and funded projects

Support is offered by Transition Edinburgh University at the following rates:

• Courses at £400 per day per organisation (except Carbon Conversations). Training courses are offered for up to five individuals per organisation.

• On-going support is available at £400 per day.

• Travel costs to and from central Edinburgh are additional.

• Other costs are detailed in individual courses, see below.

Setting up CO2-cutting programmes

Home Energy Visits, 2 day course

Learn how to set up successful volunteer led home energy-saving schemes, based on the experience of TEU’s “Big Green Makeover” project which cut over 300 tonnes of CO2 in 2010. Cost at standard rates.

Low CO2 Food, 1 day course

TEU’s Food Fellowship scheme, encouraging low-meat and local diets, has trained volunteers and recorded over 200 tonnes of CO2 cuts. Lean how to make fun food projects make lasting change and evidence cuts in CO2. Cost at standard rates.

Student Energy Competitions in Universities, 1 day course

Learn how student energy competitions cut over 100 tonnes of CO2 in student residences at Edinburgh University, and you can use fun events and incentives to run effective schemes of your own. Cost at standard rates.

Low CO2 Leisure Travel, 1 day course

Aviation accounts for a quarter of a University population’s CO2 emissions (TEU 2009 study). Learn how to engage students and staff with reducing the impact of their leisure travel footprint. Cost at standard rates.

Carbon Conversations including facilitator training

The Carbon Conversations was listed by the Guardian as one of the top 20 ways to fight climate change. Courses run at the University of Edinburgh have led to over 400 tonnes of CO2 cuts in the first several months, with pledges of much larger savings over the next few years, making deep lasting changes in attitudes. Learn how to plan and facilitate courses.

Carbon Conversations facilitator training is £165 per person for 2 days, with up to 2 days additional set up and on ongoing support at standard rates.

Running effective projects

Engaging and involving students and staff, 2 day course

A coordinated face-to-face engagement campaign is at least 5x more effective, and about 6x cheaper than a traditional media campaign. We have learnt firsthand how to develop engagement campaigns from the ground up to directly reach out to your audience. We’ll cover the importance of clear strategy, messaging, co-ordination, data collection and analysis, and how to run effective and fun engagements and events. Cost at standard rates.

Measuring and reporting progress, ½ day course

Take the stress out of fund monitoring and evaluation. Building on TEU’s experience, you’ll learn out how to measure, record and report progress. Cost at standard rates.

On-going support

Ad-hoc additional support by phone and email is also available as follow up for all the courses detailed according to your projects requirements. Cost at standard rates.

Developing Successful Engagement Practices

Specific support is also available for your engagement process. We’ll start from your key aims and develop a tailored communications and engagement solution to match your situation. We work to use unique face-to-face marketing methods to directly involve your audience in our activities. We’ll advise on how you could set up your own systems to monitor and improve the situation and meet your goals.

Engagement Process and System Development

A successful engagement process depends upon a large number of back-office, strategic and administrative tools – training materials, analytics, software and contact management system. We will, with your complete understanding and support, undertake to develop and tailor the correct solutions to meet your goals. Software systems will be licensed on your behalf, and set up to match training materials and engagement structures developed according to your specific needs. 4 days support recommended at standard rates.

Ongoing technical support

We will continue to manage, host and support technical solutions to support your engagement processes. This includes dedicated staff support time, and a 24 hour response time guarantee for urgent problems, depending on external conditions. Cost    £100/month + out of hours and exceptional call out charges.
