Homes play a very important role in our lives.

For thousands of students, University life is the first time they live away from their parents and relatives. This poses new problems and opportunities, with students becoming more aware of what comes into a flat – like electricity, water, food and so on – and what goes out – bills and waste.

For staff, the rising cost of energy can also be a source of worry. Also, staff are more likely to own their homes and so are often in a better position to implement more ambitious infrastructural changes to make their homes even more warm and lower carbon.

We understand how much of a difference our homes can make to the environment*, and how much of a role they’ll play in the Scottish Government’s commitment to reduce total carbon emissions by 42% by 2020.

There’s a lot we can do before we step outside our homes! Our projects take this into account and aim to make student and staff homes more sustainable in a practical and fun way.
