Research Evening: Academia meets Transition

18 November 2010, 5pm

Join us, Transition Edinburgh University, for the first in a series of research evenings.  The Transition movement had it start in small rural towns and is now a world wide phenomenon.  Transition is an ethos more than an initiative and is focussed on moving civil society toward a more sustainable future.  The University of Edinburgh has the honour of being the first Transition University.

These research evenings are a forum to learn about research that is being done on the impact of Transition Edinburgh University (TEU) and aspects associated with it.  It’s a space for people to showcase their research, or to discuss their ideas, or to just listen and absorb.  All are welcome.  Research Evenings will take place roughly monthly and cover a range of themes.

Research Evening on the 18th of November at 5.00 pm

Seminar Room 3, Chrystal Macmillan Building, 15a George Square

Theme of the evening: TEU and the University of Edinburgh

The University of Edinburgh is committed to the goals of sustainability and carbon reduction. TEU plays an important role in furthering the sustainable behaviours of the University. This role however needs to evaluated and confirmed.  A related area is the relationship between the University’s commitment towards sustainability goals and the principles of transition.

This evening is an opportunity to come to hear about research already done in these areas and be able to discuss other topics for research. There will also be short presentations on some of the research already done in this area, followed by a n informal discussion of ideas for new research topics.

Mike Snyder- University Staff and Community-Based Organisations in Higher Education Institutes:  Opportunities for Engagement and Action

Christy McGillivray- Sustainability in Higher Education: Managing the Contradiction with Transition Edinburgh University

Presentations will be followed by open discussion on related topics to allow your input and gather your research interest.

Tea, coffee and cakes will be served at 5:00

All welcome but please RSVP to debbie@teu.org.uk to register your interest.
